Memorial Day and too many memorials

Memorial day is not just an extra day off of work, a good day to fire up the grill, and hang out with the family, but it is day we set aside to remember all of the men and women that lost their lives protecting our country. Someone’s mother, father, sister, brother, child, husband, wife and the list goes on and on, laid down their life for freedom that many people take for granted. So take a minute today in between the charcoal and the chicken wing, and remember the families today that have lost love ones in the line of duty.

As we honor Memorial day, I can’t help but think about my city and the violence we have been experiencing. Weekends like this (hot weather and holidays) I really dislike watching the news reports because of the deadly statistics. Sunday night’s headline read “4 dead, 28 wounded in weekend shootings” and it’s really sickening that this is becoming the norm for Chicago. We can read the headlines and talk about it, but certain changes only come by taking action.

Here’s an opportunity to be the change you wish to see! 5,000 signatures are needed on a petition for more pressure to be put on the Mayor, Governor, Illinois State Reps, and Illinois House. I know some people may say what is a petition going do? I would rather sign a petition and not be sure, than to do nothing and things continue to be the same in our city. If our city can formulate a plan to protect the world’s leaders, surely it can protect our families.

Take action today! Click here to sign the petition

Have an awesome and safe Memorial Day!
