August 9, 1963-February 11, 2012
Today, the world lost a Daughter, Mother, Sister, Friend, and an Icon, but heaven gained a song bird. When the news hit about Whitney’s death, the world went numb with pain because we grew up listening to her music, watching her movies, and to us Whitney was our sister, aunt, or friend. While the media will rip apart her last 24 hours of life and speculate what caused this strategy, let’s use this time to pray for her family and to honor her for the great contributions that she made to musical history. Whitney Houston was one the greatest singers that ever lived, she was the most awarded female artist which includes 2 Emmy Awards, 6 Grammy’s, 30 Billboard Awards, and 22 American Music Awards, a total of 415 awards overall. She was the ONLY artist to have 7 consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hits. Whitney will truly be missed and I just hope that her good deeds outshine her misfortunes.
I could go on and on about my all-time favorite Whitney Houston songs, but my most memorable song is “Greatest Love of All”, I remember singing this in elementary school, and the words are so powerful even today.
I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone’s shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I’ll live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can’t take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all
RIP Whitney Houston
