You need your BFF

Yesterday, I was reading through Parenting Magazine and came across a really cool article called “Friendship CPR”. In the article it stressed the importance of social interaction with friends and tips in which I will share through this post.

“I think if I’ve learned anything about friendship, it’s to hang in, stay connected, fight for them, and let them fight for you. Don’t walk away, don’t be distracted, don’t be too busy or tired, don’t take them for granted. Friends are part of the glue that holds life and faith together. Powerful stuff.”

Oh yeah, Friends are pretty doggone important. How many of us (me included) have done these things:

Not seen your friends for months at a time?
Haven’t spoke to your friend in over a month?
When you speak to or hang out with your friends you spend the first hour catching up, because you haven’t talked in so long?

I’m so guilty of this! With family, kids, career…..LIFE alone….can get soooo crazy that the first people we put on the back burner are our friends. Some of us before we had all of the above we had a hard time making time for our friends. Just as we have to maintain relationships with our spouses, relationships with our friends have to also be given the necessary attention otherwise the relationship grows further and further apart. Now…..there are situations where certain friendships grow apart and head in different directions, and you just aren’t on the same page anymore, but that’s a different post 🙂

The Article “Friendship CPR” gave a few tips for making time for your friends:

-Run errands together, since you have to get them done anyway, why not spend your grocery shopping time with a friend?

-Take a fun class together (my girls and I have already discussed doing this)

-Can’t get to your friends? Skype or Instant Message them (we do this daily, it really works, check out WhatsApp for iPhone/Blackberry, the groupchat feature is fab)

A few Haute Mommi tips:

-Start a tradition with your friends and stick to them (i.e. Monthly breakfast or dinners, game or family nights, potlucks)

-Share your dreams with your friends and watch out for the opportunities that you can create together

-Do good with your friends, find a local charity and you can volunteer together

You need your husband/wife, kids, job, parents, siblings, but you also need your FRIENDS.

Good Deeds and Great Days

I can truly say, today was a good day….

I very rarely see movies on the day they release in theaters, but me and my best friend’s went to see Tyler Perry’s new movie “Good Deeds” and it was a great movie. (I won’t go any further than that, go support and see it!) A lot of people say my husband looks like Tyler Perry, but I never see it, BUT today during the movie, live and in living color, I saw my husband dancing in the movie!

What do you think?

On a more serious note, Tyler Perry lived out his movie title today and did “A Good Deed” on the South-side of Chicago. For 94 days Pastor Corey Brooks of New Beginnings Church camped out on the roof of an abandoned hotel across the street from his church. He proclaimed through a cold, snowy, and windy Chicago that he wouldn’t come off of the roof until he raised $450,000 to build a new community center. Today,  a member of New Beginnings Church wrote a letter for a contest for Perry’s new movie and was proclaimed the winner. Once he heard about the cause and that it was real, he donated $98,000 (then decided to make it an even $100K) to the cause and TONIGHT Pastor Corey Brooks came off the roof! This a beautiful story of the positive outcome of faith and determination, when people say you will fail, you thrive!

Today was a great day filled with good deeds. A relationship was started and I can’t wait to see what beautiful a flower it will blossom to be, I had a great evening with my best friend’s indulging in a great movie, good food, and even better conversation, and today on my cousin’s __ birthday she received her college degree. Words could not express the happiness that I felt when I saw the picture of her degree (I almost starting crying like a baby in the movie theater). When you know how hard someone worked on their dream, you can appreciate their reward. That’s what this blog is all about, Chasing kids and bigger dreams, and she lived that out for me today.

Be encouraged, you’re next!

Where would I be without my friends?

This week on onehautemommi.com is Friend’s Week! Our friends are the people that hold us up, encourage us, laugh with us and at us, and are more like sisters and brothers than friends. As we grow older and have so many moving parts in our lives with kids, husbands, families, and careers many times the relationships with our friends fall off. Therefore we have to be diligent about fostering those relationships with our friends. So today, make a commitment to be a better friend and make an effort to reconnect with friends that you haven’t seen or spoken to in a while.
